Float Chess News | 25th July 2026
India's teenage superstar D Gukesh has climbed to the World No. 3 spot in the official live FIDE ratings list, matching the highest ranking achieved by an Indian player since Viswanathan Anand.
Gukesh's rating reached a peak of 2794 Elo following his strong performance in Singapore and his recent classical victories in elite tournaments. The 20-year-old grandmaster is now positioned just behind Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura, establishing himself as a permanent member of the chess elite.
The milestone is a testament to Gukesh's phenomenal rise. Known for his intense focus, positional understanding, and exceptional endgame calculation, Gukesh has consistently defeated the world's best players under pressure.
With the upcoming Sinquefield Cup and the Chess Olympiad on the horizon, Gukesh has his sights set on crossing the historic 2800 rating barrier, a milestone achieved by only a handful of players in chess history.
