Turkey’s teenage chess star Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus has become the youngest player ever to reach a 2700 live rating at just 14 years old, breaking the previous age record held by Wei Yi.

He achieved the milestone after defeating former world champion Veselin Topalov 5-1 in a match. Erdogmus had already impressed with earlier wins over Peter Svidler and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

Meanwhile, Ian Nepomniachtchi criticised the match, saying Topalov was an easy choice of opponent to help the youngster gain rating points.
